Seen: The Dirty Show in LA

Colin Christian

Colin Christian

A decade long tradition in Detroit, The Dirty Show opened its first exhibition in LA on Friday at the City Center Motel in Downtown LA.  Featuring a vide variety of erotic art, the exhibition celebrates and questions the nature and varieties of desire.  This is art stripped down in a decaying motel devoid of the bright lights and pristine walls of traditional galleries.  Curated by Jerry Vile , the large group show features several well-known artists including HR Giger, Colin Christian (above), Tristan Eaton, Glenn Barr, and Brian Viveros. In addition to the art exhibit, several Suicide Girl modes added undeniable spice to the evening.  The carefully selected pictures after the jump while arguably tasteful, are definitely not work safe.  The two day show ends tonight (11.14).

Tristan Eaton for Manifest Hope DC

Tristan Eaton (Thunderdog Studios)

Thunderdog Studios President Tristan Eaton’s piece for the historic Manifest Hope DC Gallery (1.17 – 1.19) is an impressive 4’ x 5’ recreation of his Obama portrait created for the Thundervote campaign.  It was created by printing and hand-cutting 300 elements and then wheat pasting each onto the canvas.  The work is set against a background of images drawn from the Vote for Change posters.

PATTY DELI - We got the Buckshot! Tristan Eaton. Spraypaint on Metal. 18 x 24"

Brooklyn Illustrator and designer Tristan Eaton’s contribution to the show and the discourse , PATTY DELI – We got the Buckshot!, offers a humorous look at a cherished community spot that sustained him early on –

“It’s a tribute to the crown heights deli that saved my ass in my broke
days in New York.

They would spot me soup and cigarettes and they had an after hours in
the basement that would go til 9am. It was amazing. Patty was the
owner and she lived in my building with her husband Bumpy. They
treated my like family until one day, NYPD did a sweeping arrest of 20
people on my block (including them) for operating one of the largest
cocaine rings in central Brooklyn. The painting depicts Patty after
she fought off 2 armed robbers in the lobby of our building…”

Discuss Park Life over on the Daily Dujour Forums.
