Tonight, “In the Back of Real (Never Hide the Madness),” a new collection from Jaybo, opens at London’s StolenSpace Gallery, set to run until March 28. The exhibition will include an outdoor mural, new paintings, and two new prints.

While viewing some of Jaybo’s often erratic and chaotic paintings, brushstrokes and figure characterizations are vaguely suggestive of Francis Bacon, Asian art, or the world of Walt Disney. Jaybo himself characterizes these sorts of stylistic quotes as “visual reflexes,” designed to involve the observer by using their high level of familiarity with the elements interacting within the picture.

In collaboration with Original Cultures, a new international non-profit cultural and arts initiative, StolenSpace will open an exclusive exhibition of new works from famed European artists Ericailcane (Italy), DEM (Italy) and Will Barras (UK).

This exhibition will form part of the week-long Original Cultures London 2010 event and run from February 12th until March 7th. This will be the trio’s second collaborative project following their work during Original Cultures’ first event in Bologna, Italy, in June 2009 which saw them create an exclusive animation and shadow-based installation. As visiting guests, Ericailcane and DEM will take the lead bringing to StolenSpace a collection of brand new paintings and other media. Will Barras meanwhile will be exhibiting a new animation and associated designs he is producing exclusively for the show.

Exclusive to the exhibition will be the release of a limited edition collaborative screen print as well as a series of 6 picture discs produced by Original Cultures and featuring art from all 3 artists and music from Om Unit (UK), Tatsuki (JP), and Tayone (IT), the three musicians involved in the Original Cultures project.

For her newest exhibition at StolenSpace Gallery, Chloe Early has created a number of paintings that feature a female figure suspended in a a romantic and whimsical environment. The hard edges of the urban landscape in “Clouded Apollo”  contrast with softer elements such as patches of roses or even the subject herself. Clearly on display, the female elegantly twists and turns, and yet she is unconscious of her audience. The artist who brought out the feminine side in street art opened her largest ever solo show at StolenSpace in London on October 1. The retrospective, along with a new body of work, showcases Miss Van’s female characters, known as  “poupes,” in all their sensuous glory. While Miss Van’s poupes were originally more ‘cute,” the figures have taken on an increasingly sexual tone. Both saintly and mischievous at once, their contrasting traits make for a complex subject. At the show Miss Van will also release an exclusive hand pulled limited edition screen print. Check out some of the featured works after the jump.

Chloe Early

StolenSpace Gallery’s summer show opens July 3rd from 6-9 pm and this year is literally filled to the brim with new works from over twenty artists, plus a few new faces as a small taster of exhibitions to come for the rest of this year and next. This show features all new works on canvas, wood & paper as well as 3D work and exclusive new screen print releases from artists such as Chloe Early, Kai and Sunny and Word to Mother.
