Opening today at Westwood’s Hammer Museum, Paul Thek: Diver, a Retrospective chronicles the work of the late legendary American artist Paul Thek. First celebrated for his sculpture in 1960s New York, Thek also flourished as a painter and pioneering artist in the concept of installations and creating exhibition environments.
Thek’s earliest sculptures, which the artist deemed “meat pieces” due to their resemblance of flesh, represent the ephemeral nature of his works. These, among other pieces, denote Thek’s heightened awareness of his own transience, and will serve as part of an effort to introduce the artist to a broader American audience.
