Update: Melissa Haslam

Melissa Haslam is gearing up for 2010 and just sent me a study of some new work she is developing for her busy schedule next year. I can’t share the other images, but I will tell you that Haslam has clearly been putting some hours in at the easel…refining her technique while working towards a photo-realistic style.

We should finally see some finished work from her this April for our SF exhibition and than in shows in LA and London. You can expect a new print from her to release early January on Paper Tiger as well.

Brian Despain’s ‘The Exiles’ Print from Paper Tiger

brian_despain

Brian Despain paints robots but in some sense that’s besides the point.  By casting his metal marvels in everyday settings, he presents a visual juxtaposition that both invites and challenges viewers.  As an excellent entry to the artist, Paper Tiger has just released a print of Despain’s  ‘The Exiles’. Beyond the beautiful surface visuals, the painting is the manifestation of a critical human experience as Brian explains – "To me “The Exiles” represents honor and dignity in the face of adversity. An unlikely royal couple stands proud but alone under a tumultuous sky, their crowns, a symbol of their former state, lift from their brows to hover like ghostly halos while dead leaves dance about them on winds of change."    Limited to just 25 pieces, the print measures  12” x 14.5” and is available for $100 from apapertiger.com.

New Print from Edwin Ushiro

LeBasse Projects artist Edwin Ushiro just released a new print last week with Paper Tiger. It is a stunning rendition of yet another painting from the multi talented artist.

According to Edwin, the print, titled ‘Birth of Unreckoning’ is another in his series of works evoking memories of his childhood in Hawaii.

Edwin says, “In Hawaiian mythology, Madame Pele is the Hawaiian Goddess of fire, lightning, dance, volcanoes, and violence. Throughout my childhood in Hawaii, I have heard numerous reports from residents who have had an encounter with Pele. Many sightings forewarn an eruption of Kilauea (one of the world’s most active volcano).”

The prints has a very small edition size (only 25) so go get one soon…or save your money for his upcoming solo show this summer.

Yoskay Yamamoto’s Koibito Launch Party

Platinum Plus aka Yoskay Yamamoto released his Koibito at Munky King last night. Even in a down economy, the fans lined up around the corner to pick up the two colorways that just came out. The “smoke” black was awesome – and if you were lucky enough to grab one of the customs it came with a hand screened bandana and a small gocco print.

The limited “smoke” and the prints all sold out quickly, but I think there might be a few of the general release koibito at Munky King – or you can start lining up now for February’s White and Silver release being run through the gallery and Paper Tiger.
