Johnny 'KMNDZ' Rodriguez

Featuring an extremely talented and diverse group of artists, Movers and Shakers opened to packed house on Valentine’s @ POVevolving in LA’s chinatown. If you are even remotely interested in low brow/pop surrealist art, this show has something to offer. In fact, it’s likely that several of your favorite artists have work in the show.   Curator Gino Joukar has drawn widely to provide a broad look at this ‘new’ art genre.  In fact, the diversity speaks to what is at once thrilling and daunting in terms of describing or labeling this art world.

Spanning both the main floor and a previously unused bottom floor, the massive collection of work is anchored by a large mural on panels by Ekundayo and KMNDZ.  The artists are frequent mural collaborators – the familiarity with one another shows itself in the eye-catching results dripping with detail and atmosphere.

In addition to the original art, POV has released a special print box-set featuring  8×10 prints from thirteen artists including : Ana Bagayan, Andy Kehoe, Bob Dob, Brian Despain,  Cathie Bleck, Damon Soule, Glenn Barr,  Johnny ‘KMNDZ’ Rodriguez, Mia, Lola, Naotto Hatori, Nicoletta Ceccoli, and Yosuke Ueno.

If you missed the opening, Movers and Shakers is definitely worth a prolonged visit.

Tonight’s the opening (7-11 PM) of the large Movers and Shakers group show @ POVevolving in LA’s Chinatown district.  The show offers a broad offering of pop surrealist work from an exciting lineup of artists.  To tie the diverse show together, curator Gino Joukar commissioned Johnny KMNDZ Rodriguez and Ekundayo to create a large cityscape installation. Here’s a behind-the-scenes look at the installation in progress including shots of KMNDZ putting the finishing touches on the work.   Come on out to enjoy all the original work in the show and this large panel installation. Buff Monster

Valentine’s Day.  Chocolate, Champagne, Romantic Dinner. Art show?  Absolutely.  It’s definitely worth squeezing in the opening of Movers and Shakers this Saturday (2.14) from 7 to 11 PM @ POVevolving in LA’s Chinatown.  Curated by prolific curator Gino Joukar, this show offers one of the largest and most diverse collection of pop surrealist works from an extremely impressive lineup. For the uninitiated, this will be a great introduction, for the serious collector – a not-to-be-missed opportunity.

One of Joukar’s goals for Movers and Shakers was to promote the collecting of pop-surrealist work.  Beyond the original work, the show will feature the release of a special limited-edition box set featuring thirteen 8 x 10 prints by Ana Bagayan, Andy Kehoe, Bob Dob, Brian Despain,  Cathie Bleck, Damon Soule, Glenn Barr,  Johnny ‘KMNDZ’ Rodriguez, Mia, Lola, Naotto Hatori, Nicoletta Ceccoli, and Yosuke Ueno.  Limited to 50 sets, the prints will come in a slick black and silver  foil-stamped box.
