Jeff Koons Introduces Design for 17th BMW Art Car

Jeff-Koons-BMW-Art-Car

Jeff Koons has been named the latest artist commissioned to design BMW’s art car, a project completed 16 times in the last 35 years. Koons will adorn a BMW M3 GT2, following the graphic artistry of such names as Andy Warhol, Frank Stella, Roy Lichtenstein, and Robert Rauschenberg.

Koons’ design (above), a series of bold, solid streaks, was in part inspired by the triumphant desire for a checkered flag. He stated that, in the process of conceiving the pattern, he looked at historical designs of cars used at drag strips–one of which at Le Mans, the site at which the car is to race in June.

Koons said of his project, ““I think that would be really fantastic to work on a car that could win. I do hope that in the future, we can look back and this car wins.”

Seen: Mac and Retna at the Margulies Collection

DSC01105

Retna and Mac have been on a tour of duty putting up massive murals. The duo recently posted murals in Orange County at the RVCA headquarters and another in Salt Lake City last week. Now they are in Miami putting up another behemoth at the Margulies Collection. The Collection is a massive warehouse of paintings, photography and some of the most impressive sculptural work around. Sculptures from Noguchi, Frank Stella, Michael Heizer and more are placed throughout the sprawling complex.

Outside Retna and Mac add a bit of the new contemporary flair…more pics of the Collection and Mac and Retna as well after the jump:
