Seen: David Choe signing at GR2

Looks like GR2 is getting a lot of love from the blog today, but all deserving. Giant Robot has both a great last minute gift show up (see Post It) - and they just hosted art superstar David Choe for a signing of his newly released “Choegal” toy from Ningyoshi toys.

The wooden toy has hand painted parts (though not by Dave) and we were able to pick up ours along with a shiny autograph from Dave. It is really a great toy - and you should probably get online, or into GR2 to order one quick as it is limited to only 1000 pieces.

Fans were picking up Choe toys, GR posters and the new Giant Robot Magazine with Choe’s cover art, all in hopes of getting a sketch. The fan above (a DD contributor) actually brought a paint set. David was nice enough to paint a little something…

…David tells us he is off to China in a few weeks to begin shooting his new project. Have fun in Beijing…stay away from the street meat! Keep reading for our pics, or discuss David’s work here:

Blaine Fontana // New print release

Blaine Fontana has been in hiding a bit since his move to the wilderness of the Northwest last year, but that does not mean he hasn’t been busy. Blaine recently completed a custom Scion xB that we got to check out during Art Basel and is about to move back into the real world next month. In between his move, he just released this sweet little print:

“Irregular Fauna #2″
It is a 12″ x 12″ Giclee, printed on 100% cotton rag acid free museum paper, 425 g/m² basis weight.  Hand Signed and Numbered.  Limited Edition of 50. Order one here:

Better grab one now, as I hear Mr. Fontana is starting to work on his first major solo exhibition in quite some time. DD cannot wait for that one.

David Choe is all over the place

Looks like David Choe is up to no good once again. Tomorrow he is releasing a new EIGHTEEN color screenprint with Burlesque Design. To top that off, Choe has drawn and painted on all 76 prints so each is completely unique. Check out the production video from Burlesque and their image gallery of the process:

If that is not enough David Choe for you, we have more. David will be signing his new “Choegal” toy at GR2 on Tuesday, December 23, from 6-8pm.

Futura’s Strategic Synchronicity

NYC graff legend Futura opened his first LA solo, Strategic Synchronicity, this past thursday night at a VIP event attended by collectors and several notable celebs and artists including – Ashlee Simpson, Joe Hahn, Estevan Oriol, Slick, Mark Dean Vecca and more.  Presented by Krunk the show marks Futura’s return to the fine art scene in grand style – from the huge canvases to the large space which combines some elegant touches with an unfinished urban space feel.

In the past Futura has combined his more abstract elements with the more figurative ones such as his iconic Pointman.  This is no longer the case.  As he moves farther away from figurative elements, the two styles are now segregated.  In fact this show apparently marks the end of Pointman’s run (at least for the forseeable future).

The show ends this weekend, but is a must see if you’re in LA.
