ABOUT JEREMIAH KETNER

Jeremiah Ketner paints a world to which fairytales long to belong.  With candy-floss landscapes and vivid imaginary images, his work enraptures and transports one into the world ethereal and the life celestial.  He has the inimitable ability to transform the natural into the sublime, terra firma into terra ephemera, the defined figure into the delicate, exquisite figurative.  Renowned throughout the US and internationally, Ketner attributes his influence to Art Nouveau, Japanese Aesthetics and Manga. He resides and creates from his home and studio in Chicago, IL, USA.

FOREVER CHAMPIONING THE NEW CONTEMPORARY MOVEMENT  IN FINE ART

Interview with Mikal (M11X) Hameed about his Urban Audio Manifesto!

http://dailydujour.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/11/12-DSC_1975-500x329.jpg

Following in the footsteps of the early Dadaists and Fluxus sound experiments, artist M11X (aka Mikal Hameed) has exploded on the scene with a new, more contemporary form of sound art. Blending his musical history and technical skill as a craftsman and visual fine artist, designer Mikal Hameed and his alter ego artist M11X, calls on us to forget our individualized nature and relationship with our headphones and demands that we start to share our music as it was meant to be; unplugged from our ears and free.  M11X’s manifesto blends the iconic image of the boom box and alters the platform to which music is brought to the masses. Mikal’s personal relationship to the early 80s, boom boxes and sound in general, creates a strong foundation from which he explores through collaboration with many traditional fine art mediums.  This Friday Hameed will be bringing a recent tour of his artwork to a close at Kingdom in Williamsburg, Brooklyn.  The tour ran through galleries and art spaces in Los Angeles, San Francisco and Jersey City before making it’s final stop in Brooklyn, New York.  I sat down with Hameed to ask him a few questions about his artwork and what to expect from this upcoming event on Friday, March 12th in Brooklyn.

On Saturday, February 6th, close to 400 people showed up at Last Rites Gallery in NYC to check out the new paintings by both Fred Harper and Nick Baxter. Fred and Nick are very popular to their respective fans in both the comic book and tattoo worlds. This show, however, was a chance for both of them to show us all that there is a whole other side to these immensely talented individuals . Every free moment, which hasn’t been spent slinging ink on paper or skin over the last several years, has been devoted to painting. On February 6th they finally unveiled their new body of works to a packed gallery. The anticipation was high for both shows and based on the reaction from the crowd the payoff was sweet! Below is a link to photos from opening night, which were taken by Steve Prue. The show will be on display in the gallery until February 27th. If you are in the NYC area between now and then it would be worth your time to stop by and check it out.

ABOUT THE GALLERY

Last Rites Gallery is New York’s only gallery of dark art. Having opened in April 2008, the gallery has received accolades from places as diverse as Inked Magazine, Tattoo Society, Juxtapoz, Hi Fructose, NY Post, and the Channel 11 Morning News. Last Rites was founded by legendary painter and tattooist Paul Booth, an artist who has devoted his life to the evolution of his craft. In the tattoo industry, after years of public appearances and numerous international awards, Paul Booth is now a household name. He has been featured on networks such as CNN, MSNBC, DISCOVERY, A&E, TLC, MTV and VH1. Due to the macabre nature of his style, Paul has tattooed many major metal bands. As a result, in 2002, Rolling Stone Magazine dubbed Paul “The new king of rock tattoos.” There is currently a two-year waiting list for his work. All shows at Last Rites are curated by gallery director Andrew Michael Ford. Ford has been profiled, interviewed and/or quoted by The New York Times, Washington Post, Philadelphia Inquirer, Village Voice, Timeout NY, Juxtapoz and National Public Radio’s “All Things Considered”.

David R. Choquette @ Last Rites Gallery (3.6.10)

Montreal based tattooist and painter David R. Choquette will soon be unveiling his first ever solo exhibition of paintings in New York City at Last Rites Gallery in Chelsea on Saturday, March 6th.  Choquette will have approximately 15 brand new, never before seen paintings on display.  Choquette’s successful participation in last year’s New Breed group exhibition resulted in his work completely selling out.  We are very excited to have him back in the gallery, this time for his first solo in NYC!  Below is some information about this extremely talented artist.
David R. Choquette is a 29 year old Montreal based tattooist and painter. He’s intrigued by the sense of discomfort that physical abnormalities cause. His portraits, often miniature, are aesthetic counter type to the popular standards. Obsessing over every square inch, he creates strange atmospheres where ugliness and beauty are hard to dissociate. With sharp details, he tries to communicate the sensibility of his inner world.

Choquette writes about his art, “Setting down to work, I never know what the hell will come out. The only thing that’s for sure, the Devil is truly in the details!”.

OPENING RECEPTION: SATURDAY, MARCH 6TH @ 7PM @ LAST RITES GALLERY

Please contact the gallery with any questions about this upcoming exhibition: andrew@lastritesgallery.com

Chris Peters @ Last Rites Gallery (3.6.10)

Chris Peters will soon be unveiling his first ever solo exhibition in New York City at Last Rites Gallery in Chelsea on Saturday, March 6th.  Peters will have 10 brand new, never before seen paintings on display.  East Coast fans of this West Coast sensation are beyond psyched that he is finally having this much anticipated first solo exhibition in NYC.  Below is a little information about this extremely gifted artist.

Chris Peters’ paintings try to find the beauty in that uneasy twilight place between life and death, between reality and unreality, between hope and despair. The objects in the paintings draw from the classic symbolism of Vanitas still life and Catholic religious paintings; all refer to the cycle of life, death and the promise of resurrection.

Alex Pardee Interview: Zero Friends Retail Store in NYC!

http://photos-b.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc3/hs145.snc3/17279_320450764198_691319198_4869863_6289769_n.jpg

Alex Pardee’s unique style is one conceived through watching years of horror movies, writing graffiti, and listening to gangster rap. His work best represents that of a circus sideshow cemetery. Final pieces are often brought to life by translating random shapes and colors into signs of torment and absurdity. By juxtaposing these two conflicting moods, Alex makes his works more personal to his viewers, forcing them to project their own feelings and emotions onto each character in his twisted universe. Alex Pardee’s devotion to his art has gained the attention of Warner Bros., Reprise Records, Freeze Management, Hurley International, KidRobot, Twenty Twenty Skateboards, and more. Alex continues to use his art as a means of self-medication, creating emotionally charged images on canvases, sketchbooks, and any other surfaces he can cover with his bizarre characters.  He was gracious enough to take a few moments to talk about his latest endeaveor, Zero Friends.  More specifically the grand opening of the new Zero Friends retail outlet in NYC!
