Every year, Saturday night is unofficially party night during Art Basel Week in Miami. Judging by the large crowd hoping to get in outside its gates, Basel Castle 2011 (12.3) was one of the must-attend events for those seeking a blend of live music and art. On the art side, four artists painted live including Shark Toof, Sam Flores, Beau Stanton and Greg Mike who curated the lineup. It’s been awhile since we’ve seen Sam Flores out and about, so it was great to see him painting live and turning in an awesome piece as well. While the live painting was definitely the main draw art wise, Basel Castle also featured an art gallery/pop-up store featuring some original art, paints, and merch. On the music side, rapper Yellawolf held down the headliner position with rapid-fire rhymes. Presented by Overthrow, Basel Castle proved to be the perfect way to unwind after a full week of fairs, art shows, and countless street art murals.
