Billy Shire’s La Luz de Jesus has launched countless numbers of low brow and pop surrealism artists’ careers over its remarkable 25 years of influential exhibitions. To celebrate, the gallery has put together a massive group exhibition, showcasing established artists who rose to prominence with the gallery as well as newer artists whose work meshes with the legendary space’s artistic direction. So big in fact that its been split into two parts. As a more lasting tribute, the gallery has also released a 25th Anniversary book documenting its prominent role as well as the exhibit itself. The gallery hosted a private preview of Part 1 on Thursday evening which features work from Laurie Lipton (above), Gary Taxali, Glenn Barr, Gary Panter, The Clayton Brothers, Martin Wittfooth, Dave Cooper, Matt Groening, Don Ed Hardy and many more. Enjoy the preview pics. The exhibition officially opens on Friday evening.
