LA sculptor Hacer opened perhaps his most ambitious show yet, ‘The Fold’ on Wednesday evening prior to the frenzy that is the Downtown LA artwalk, @ the Groundfloor Gallery. While he’s known for his popular series of Origami animal sculptures done in hand-folded, powder coated metal, Hacer took a step back for this show, opting to present 20 plus sculptures using one single minimalist shape (and its inverse). This was done in part to put a focus on the beauty of the basic elements of his work and the creative possibilities contained within the simple folds on display. Through careful and creative positioning of the identical form throughout the gallery and varying of the spacing between pieces, Hacer delivered a visually appealing show and in doing so, demonstrated the expressivity of the chosen form.
