Red Bull and Brazilian ad agency Loducca have teamed up on a new website to map street art: www.streetartview.com. The site uses Google’s Street View and Flickr to show closeups of street art works around the world. So far just over 700 pieces have been tagged, unsurprisingly many of these are in Brazil. The photos are easy to view, though not all are up to date (if you ever wanted to see Keith Haring’s recreated Houston St. mural ca 2008, this is your site).
Questions remain about how useful the site will really be. It is not the first of its kind, www.streetartlocator.com has been up and active for years, and other sites like Bombing Science list street art locations by city. So is Red Bull really about art, or is it jumping on the popular street art train? Its project Art of Can has been going since 2006, time will tell for Street Art View.
