Shows: Tanaka, Guillen, Offermann @ David B. Smith Gallery (11.21)

Picture 4

In the last show of David B. Smith Gallery’s 2009 season, Yoko Tanaka, Katherine Guillen, and Andrea Offerman explore the interplay between the natural and human worlds. Tanaka’s acrylic paintings feature human and non-human characters co-existing in whimsical environments. In contrast, Guillen’s paintings depict the concept of the monument, both in terms of its architectural and historical context. And lastly, Berlin-based Offerman is interested in scientific inquiry and “the drive to understand, to recreate, to adjust, to manipulate, and to leave a mark on the face of the earth…” Each of the artists address the relationships between nature and science, yet their works all bring something different to the show. Stop by the gallery on November 21 from 7-10 p.m. and take a look at more works from the exhibit after the jump!
