LA artist Edwin Ushiro opened his Softly Encompassing the Womb solo this past Saturday (9.12) at LeBasse Projects. Edwin based the show around several Hawaiian ghost tales that he learned as child. As he has done in the past, he has used the likeness of childhood friends in his new paintings which have his signature ethereal, dream-like feel. Probably his darkest subject-wise so far, Edwin’s new work really needs to be seen in person to be appreciated – especially the larger pieces of which there are several. Ushiro once again demonstrates his unique and immediately recognizable style which exudes a rare vibrance.
