Shows: Sarah Joncas & Kelly Vivanco @ Thinkspace

Thinkspace

Think Space

It was Ladies night at Think Space gallery Friday, who held the opening reception for new works by Sarah Joncas and Kelly Vivanco. The gallery also featured works by Tran Nguyen. I was in attendance for the opening and had the pleasure of speaking with the artists (thanks Amanda! ).

Sarah’s work features a bevy of beautiful femme fatals, whom have been a consistent theme since her early musings as an artist. These wonderfully rendered pieces play on central female figures who’s presence is somehow subtly subverted by the environments they belong to. I noted a bit of art deco flavor to her work, which I think adds a great film noir -esqe vibe.

Kelly brings us into the world of “The Conservatory” with beautiful, intimate works that create a vibrant narrative. Kelly spoke of the idea of “The Conservatory” as the environment for her work blending not only the notion of a garden room but also a place of learning for the arts. She references both with lovely botanical detailing and central figures caught in moments of exploration.

Migrated over to the Cha Cha Lounge later for some post show musings and people watching. Unfortunately this portion of the evening could not be documented as my camera battery’s died. Saw a few friendly faces from the opening, apparently I’m not the only one with an art show then cocktail M.O., be sure to say hi on the forum!
