Seen: Know Hope @ Carmichael Gallery

Israeli artist Know Hope opened his ‘the times won’t save you (this rain smells of memory)’ solo at Carmichael Gallery on Thursday Evening (6.4).  The centerpiece of the show was his large site-specific installation featuring  several of his signature characters admist a cardboard box cityscape coping with a downpour of tears from birds overhead. The overall effect was dramatic with the large number of suspended tears and the decision to not directly light the installation which increased the somber mood.

Accompanying the installation were  several smaller pieces including a couple of excellent diorama style pieces featuring cut-out cardboard elements – almost mini installations on a wall if you will.  These were the standouts of his show since the emphasize the relationship among characters and elements that is the backbone of the art.

Next up for Know Hope, an installation in NYC.  Enjoy our photos of the opening and an informal video of some of Know Hope’s work.
