Studio Visit – Tim Biskup on ‘The Mystic Chords of Memory’

Recently Dailydujour had the pleasure of  visiting Tim Biskup’s studio as he was finishing up pieces for his next solo, The Mystic Chords of Memory, which opens this Thursday, June 4th at Iguapop in Barcelona.   A reference to Abraham Lincoln’s inaugural address, the title of the new show hints at an awakening from dark times and points to a more promising future.

While his work is at some level highly public as it is viewed in galleries and on numerous products, Biskup’s work is in reality intensely introspective.  Painting is a means of self-expression and perhaps more importantly discovery.  While his recent work has taken a turn for the darker mirroring uncertainty in his life, this newest collection of work is colorful and joyous matching a new found happiness and comfort-level in his personal development.

In terms of the aesthetic elements, Biskup returns to his use of facets a style he “loves”.  This new show also sees him  painting bubbly, voluptuous women — a very enjoyable first for him.  Fun and joy of creation was a theme that ran through the conversation during our visit.  Tim Biskup continues to evolve his painting style as a means of self-expression — a continually stimulating journey.
