Seen: Chris Anthony — Venice

Corey Helford presented LA photographer Chris Anthony’s newest Exhibition, Venice, this past Saturday evening @ a special exhibition space on Venice Blvd. in Culver City.  For his first outdoor work, Anthony presents visions of a fictional society dubbed Venice pushed to the brink by  rising sea levels caused by the melting of ice caps through global warming.

Shot on location at nearby Venice Beach, the numerous works are striking in part because of the stark contrast between the immense gray almost wintery ocean surrounding comparatively tiny colorful subjects.  The chosen composition emphasizes the role of nature gone awry and its effects on Venice’s inhabitants.  It also encourages and almost forces viewers to approach the work at a close distance in order to view the minute survivors who range from the ordinary to the strangely surreal.  Anthony’s newest work presents intriguing imagery while retaining a subtle yet pervasive enviromental consciousness.
