Seen: KAWS – The Long Way Home

KAWS first LA solo in recent memory opened tonight at Honor Fraser in Culver City.  The interest is sky high – line wrapped around the block at 8:30, easily 250-300 people still waiting.  The exhibition is split into two rooms – the first has several large abstract-ish paintings.  Colorful constellations of KAWS character components plus abstract geometric shapes – very cool and clean.  Several sculptures of note – including a day glow green life-size chum, a maybe 16” or so black bronze chum, and three painted bronze kaws heads – including a blue ”fallen’ one.  The back room is chock full of Smurfs interpretation.  All in all a great show.  Definitely check it out — plenty of time, closes on April 4th.  Enjoy the pics.
