Fresh from the November PREVIEW Emerging Art Fair in Berlin, Mixed Greens is excited to participate in the PULSE Miami Fair 2008 where they will be showcasing two of their extraordinary artists, Joseph Smolinski and Lee Stoetzel.
Joseph Smolinski’s work explores the intersection between nature and technology in today’s landscape.  Fascinated by cell phone towers disguised as trees, he renders them with intricate detail in graphite. His drawings also often reference natural disasters involving trees and their interaction with man-made objects. Like the cell tower trees, the Tree Turbines camouflage technology to blend into the landscape.  This conceptual project, including video and sculpture, continues at PULSE Miami.  The video animates the landscape with a forest full of majestic, artificial pine trees powering a cabin, an electric car charging station, and an entire city.

Joseph Smolinski lives and works in New Haven, CT.  He received his BFA from the University of Wisconsin (1999) and his MFA from the University of Connecticut, Storrs (2001).  Past group exhibition venues include the Wadsworth Atheneum Museum of Art in Hartford, CT (2007), The Aldrich Contemporary Art Museum (2004, 2008), the McDonough Museum of Art in Youngstown, OH (2007), The Cleveland Institute of Art (2005), and the Yale University School of Art (2004). Solo exhibition venues include Mixed Greens (2008), Real Art Ways (2006), and ArtSpace (2004).  In 2009, he will show at DiverseWorks in Houston, TX.  His work is currently on view at the Aldrich Museum of Contemporary Art in Ridgefield, CT, and MASS MoCA in North Adams, MA.

Lee Stoetzel uses wood to create items of nostalgia and iconic significance like the first Apple Computer, the VW Bus, and the Chopper motorcycle.  “Big Fall” is a site-specific mahogany gutter system conceived for PULSE Miami.  Inspired by the wooden gutters in Nantucket and Martha’s Vineyard, as well as personal experience with his own leaf-clogged gutters in Pennsylvania, Stoetzel has created this sculpture on a 2:1 scale.  For his upcoming solo exhibition at Mixed Greens in 2009, Stoetzel will debut pyrographic work from his Burn Outs series.

Lee Stoetzel lives and works in Chester Springs, PA.  His solo exhibitions include Mixed Greens (2004, 2005, 2007), Philadelphia International Airport (2008) and Tricia Collins Contemporary Art, New York City (1996-1999).  Past group exhibitions include the Katonah Museum show I Love The ‘Burbs (2006) and the Islip Museum’s Design for Living (2005).  Other group exhibition venues include Jessica Murray Projects, Brooklyn (2002), Meadows Museum, Dallas, TX (2000), Michigan Contemporary Art Center (2000), Stalke Galleri, Copenhagen, Denmark (1999) and the Abington Art Center, Jenkintown, PA (2007, 2008).  His photographic work is currently in the exhibition World’s Away: New Suburban Landscapes jointly organized by the Walker Art Center and Carnegie Museum of Art.  In 2009, the show will travel to the Yale School of Architecture.
