Seen: Big Geezers

Curated by The London Police, the Big Geezers group show  succeeded in presenting a high-energy, engaging art opening @ Scion Installation in LA this past Saturday evening.  While the large crowd certainly came from the urban art stylings of the Geezers –  The London Police, Galo, Pez, Morky, Miss Riel, Flying Fortress, Wayne Horse, Abner Preis and Minivila, they stayed for the carnival atmosphere complete with a very popular balloon dart toss (revealing a huge collabo wall mural), Nerf shooting gallery complete with targets created by the artists, and more.

While there were plenty of reasonably priced pieces available for sale (the gallery passes 100% of the purchase price to the artists), this was not your typical art opening.  An onlooker seemed disturbed that the “installations” were “almost too interactive”.  This was Chaz’s vision and he and the other Geezers delivered in spades.

The wall murals that flank the massive Scion space were quite impressive — from the collabo theatrical red/white piece revealed during the balloon toss to the almost indescribable mixed-media extravaganza featuring drawings, painted elements, cereal boxes, and a G ‘n R shirt.

In terms of individual pieces, we’re partial to the four LA-ized Teddy Troops from Flying Fortress.  If you missed the opening, definitely go for the murals — impressive work.  You’ll be gazing at The London Police’s circular tour de force and Galo’s impeccable wall for quite some time.
